Many stars who made their name from the worlds of music, Television, and sports have taken their love for the game a step further by investing in football clubs. Here are 5 notable celebrities who have become shareholders in football clubs, blending their fame with their love for the beautiful game.

David Beckham – Inter Miami CF

David Beckham is perhaps the most famous footballer-turned-club-owner. After a glittering career at Manchester United, Real Madrid, and LA Galaxy, Beckham co-founded and is a major shareholder in Inter Miami CF, a Major League Soccer (MLS) team based in Miami. His involvement has drawn international attention to the club, especially after signing global superstar Lionel Messi in 2023.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney – Wrexham AFC

In what was a surprising move, Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bought Wrexham AFC, a Welsh football club in 2021. Formed in 1864, it is the oldest club in Wales and the third-oldest professional association football team in the world. Their goal was to revive the club's fortunes and help it ascend the English football league pyramid. They have already made history by securing back to back promotion for the club from the National League (The 5th division of English football) to League Two where they currently play. The pair has chronicled their journey with the club in a popular documentary series, "Welcome to Wrexham."

LeBron James – Liverpool FC

NBA legend LeBron James holds a minority stake in Liverpool FC, one of England’s most historic football clubs. In 2011, James bought a 2% stake in the club through his partnership with Fenway Sports Group. As Liverpool achieved massive success over the years, including a Premier League and Champions League title, LeBron's investment has skyrocketed in value.

Michael B Jordan- Bournemouth FC

Michael B. Jordan became a co-owner of AFC Bournemouth in December 2022 as part of a consortium led by Bill Foley, acquiring a stake in the English Premier League club. Jordan’s involvement goes beyond a financial investment; he brings Hollywood star power and a passion for sports, aiming to help grow the club's global presence and engage more diverse audiences.

Elton John – Watford FC

Music icon Sir Elton John has a deep-rooted connection with Watford FC, a club he once owned. As a lifelong fan, John first became chairman of Watford in 1976 and led the club to unprecedented success. He remains an honorary life president of the club, which competes in the English Championship (second division).

Will Ferrell – Los Angeles FC

American actor, comedian, producer, and writer, Will Ferrell is part of the ownership group of Los Angeles FC (LAFC), an MLS team that debuted in 2018. Ferrell has embraced his role as a co-owner, often appearing at matches to support the team. LAFC quickly established itself as one of the top clubs in the league, winning their first MLS Cup in 2022.

Grammy Award-winning singer Ed Sheeran is a long-time supporter of Ipswich Town FC, a club that recently got promoted to the English Premier League. In 2021, Sheeran became the club’s shirt sponsor, with his logo featuring on their Men and Women teams' kits since then.

While his sponsorship has helped raise the profile of the club, bringing additional media attention and a unique connection between his music career and the football world, he also recently acquired a minority stake in the Football Club.  

With his strong ties to the local community and frequent promotion of the team, Sheeran has become synonymous with Ipswich Town’s modern identity.
