Antonio Conte to Tottenham Hotspur; Italian Manager Set to Return to The English Premier League
Antonio Conte left Inter Milan despite winning the Nerazzurri their first title in 11 years and now he is negotiating with Daniel Levy to join Tottenham. Conte never had a particularly great relationship with Inter President Steven Zhang, threatening to leave in his first year but tensions continued to rise even as Inter won the Serie A title. He was never convinced of Suning’s project and decided to take a hike and collecting a reported 7 million Euros to not coach another Serie A side.
Antonio Conte is now the leading candidate to take the Tottenham job with Ryan Mason discontinuing after his interim reign. He did not particularly do better than Jose Mourinho. There are not many coaches that are on the same level as Mourinho but Conte is one of them and might even be ahead of his Portuguese counterpart today. According to various reports, Daniel Levy is negotiating with Antonio Conte to take over the reins at Tottenham.
This Spurs side have been accused of lacking a winning mentality and who better to instill it than serial winner Conte. 1 EPL title, 1 FA Cup, 4 Scudettos, and 2 Supercoppa Italianas. Maybe he can get Kane to stay and win something for the London club. His relationship with Levy will also be an interesting watch having previously complained about “austerity projects”. It will be interesting to see if Conte can get Levy to open his famously tight wallet.
Spurs tried to bring back Mauricio Pochettino, and despite the Argentine coach wanting the second chance, Paris Saint-Germain fought hard to keep him at the Parc des Princes. Now it looks like the 51-year-old Conte will be the next coach of Tottenham and will work alongside former colleague and Juventus Sporting Director Fabio Paratici.
