Barcelona pushing for Chelsea's Andreas Christensen on a free transfer - the Danish central defender has refused to renew his contract
Barcelona, fresh from signing Ferran Torres and Dani Alves, are targeting Chelsea’s central defender Andreas Christensen as their next signing. The Danish defender is out of contract in June and he has been stalling on a new contract. Christensen had agreed on a renewal with Chelsea twice but refused to sign the contract. The Denmark international has established himself as one of the better defenders around combining terrific aerial ability with a keen sense of snuffing out danger. He is also good in 1v1 situations, performing as the right-sided center-back in Thomas Tuchel‘s favored back three formation at Chelsea. He also performs well through the middle using his crisp/sharp passing to progress the ball. The Cobham graduate is said to be looking for a new adventure for his career and the Catalan club interests him after 146 appearances for the blues.
Barcelona are searching for cheap reinforcement as they continue their post-Lionel Messi rebuild. Joan Laporta said Barcelona is back to competing financially and signing Christensen is a smart transfer with Gerard Pique. Xavi will love his ability to build play out from the back and his versatility. Christensen can play in a back three or four plus he can do a good job in defensive midfield. He has won everything there is to win with Chelsea and despite the London club looking to him as the future defensive leader, Christensen wants Barcelona. AC is free to negotiate a pre-contract with any club right now and all signs point to a move to Camp Nou.
