Barcelona set to reopen contract talks with Ousmane Dembele following his impressive performances
According to ESPN, Barcelona has reopened talks with Ousmane Dembele over a contract extension. They also claim that sporting director Mateu Alemany is meeting with the forward’s agent, Moussa Sissoko, in Morocco this week. Alemany alluded that Barca had changed their stance on Dembele, who they had told to find a new club as recently as January. Ahead of the Blaugrana’s 1-0 win over Sevilla, he said, “For us, he can stay as long as [any agreement] remains within the club’s sustainable salary limit and is proportionate to his teammates.”
Even though Joan Laporta made it look like the French international had signed a contract with another club, his entourage always insisted that his priority is staying at the Spotify Camp Nou (lol). His performances since Xavi brought him back into the fold have been outstanding. He has provided 10 assists in La Liga this season. Only Karim Benzema has more. After the Barcelona game against Sevilla, the 24-year-old received a standing ovation from Los Cules.
After the game, Xavi said, “He looks very happy and very involved. For the way I want to play, he is good.” Now we wait to see whether Alemany and the agents of the World Cup winner can reach an agreement.
