Borussia Dortmund won the DFB Pokal final by sealing a comfortable 4-1 victory over Bundesliga rivals RB Leipzig. In only the 5th minute, Jadon Sancho laid down the marker by angling a terrific shot past Peter Gulacsi. Leipzig dominated the possession but found progression hard. 28 minutes into the game and their other star player showed why he is so highly rated. Captain Marco Reus was having a game for the ages and slipped the Norwegian striker through before he bullied Dayot Upamecano to the ground with upper body strength and finished smartly to double the lead.
Just before the half-time whistle, Jadon Sancho was at it again. Marco Reus raced through on goal and slipped the English star in before he calmly sat a Leipzig defender on his arse and slotted in. Halfway through the game and the tie was all but sealed. Dani Olmo pulled one back with a terrific effort in the second half before Haaland deflected his own shot to restore the 3-goal lead.
BVB have had a torrid season that may see them not qualify for the UEFA Champions League but they produced the goods with a trophy on the line. Edin Terzic has not done the most glorious job but he will leave with a title to his name. As for Die Roten Bullen, they will be disappointed with their tepid performance as they were absolutely shredded tonight. Julian Nagelsmann has missed his chance to secure his first trophy (although he will get many more chances at Bayern Munich).
The champions will be very pleased with their performance and of course the trophy which they last won under Thomas Tuchel in the 2016/2017 season.
