Manchester United & Barcelona agree £77M fee for Frenkie De Jong - player still does not want to change clubs this summer
Manchester United have reached a full agreement with Barça for Frenkie de Jong. He will cost €75m plus €10m in add-ons but personal terms are yet to be resolved

According to various reports, Manchester United and Barcelona have reached an agreement for the transfer of Frenkie De Jong. The player will cost around £77 Million in payment and bonuses. However, the Dutch midfielder is still insisting on staying at Barca who owe him money from deferred wages. The player is owed €17 million in back pay and has so far refused to move or take a pay cut to stay.

Barcelona are desperate to let Frenkie de Jong and his big wages go to cut down their wage bill. It does not help that they have signed Andreas Christensen, Franck Kessie, and Raphinha to add to that crumbling wage bill. They have also renewed Ousmane Dembele’s contract. The Catalan club is now intent on forcing the player out to meet up with their financial obligations. The feeling is that Frenkie will dig his heels in and refuse to be bullied. Just last week, club President Joan Laporta insisted that he will try to keep the player, but it looks like all that talk was for posturing. Reports in Spain suggest Barcelona are attempting to force the midfielder away.

Erik Ten Hag wants to bring his former Ajax star to Old Trafford to compensate for the departure of Paul Pogba. United need a player like the 25-year-old who can seamlessly aid build-up play and connect the defense to midfield and attack. Frenkie de Jong will be an excellent addition to the club, but that amount reeks of typical Manchester United wastefulness that has become rampant under the Glazers.
