Marc Cucurella Transfer: Chelsea in advanced talks to sign Brighton full-back for £50 million
Marc Cucurella joined Brighton for £15m last summer and was named as the club’s player of the season after impressing in his debut campaign. He scored just one goal and created one big chance, but his tenacity, work rate, and football IQ won over fans.
If Chelsea can get this signing over the line, he will become the club’s fourth signing of the season after Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly. A deal for Chicago Fire keeper Gabriel Slonina should be the third.
The club is also working on outgoings. Timo Werner is nearing a return to RB Leipzig, while Kepa Arrizabalaga is close to joining Napoli on loan.
Chelsea FC have stolen the march on Manchester City and are set to sign Marc Cucurella from Brighton for £50 million. The deal could also involve Chelsea youngster Levi Colwill going the other way.
Cucurella is a target for Manchester City, and the Cityzens have been pushing for him all summer but balked at Brighton’s £50M asking price. City have made bids of 30 million and 40 million, but they have been rejected.
City will now move on to other targets as they attempt to replace Oleksandr Zinchenko.
The 24-year-old handed in a transfer request on Friday in a bid to push through a transfer to the Premier League champions, but they refused to pay Brighton’s asking price.
Chelsea are now in pole position to sign the versatile wing-back from their London rivals. With Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta targets for Barcelona and Ben Chilwell recovering from a long-term injury, Thomas Tuchel has moved to sign the Spaniard.
