Napoli and Tottenham Hotspur are close to agreeing on a deal for the loan transfer of Tanguy Ndombele according to Gianluca DiMarzio.

The talks started days ago, and now the clubs are close to agreeing on a deal for a dry loan. Napoli is also negotiating with the player over personal terms.

The 25-year-old is considered surplus to requirements under Antonio Conte, and Tottenham have been trying to offload him since he returned from Lyon after an unsuccessful loan spell.

Ndombele, alongside Giovani Lo Celso, Sergio Reguilon, and Harry Winks, have been training on their own since the club’s return from pre-season in South Korea.

Giovani Lo Celso is now close to joining Villarreal on a season-long loan, and while the Yellow Submarines targeted Ndombele for a while, they settled for Lo Celso.

Ndombele joined Tottenham from Lyon for a club-record fee of £65million in the summer of 2019. He has failed to deliver the goods despite being coached by world-class managers like Conte and Jose Mourinho.

He struggled to influence games regularly and suffered stamina issues.

A loan back to Ligue 1 did nothing to help the player recover himself. With the arrival of Yves Bissouma, Ndombele has fallen further down the pecking order at the North London club, and another spell away might be best for all parties.

Luciano Spalletti’s Napoli look will take the player temporarily. They plan on using the France international to replace Fabian Ruiz, who is close to joining Paris Saint-Germain.

However, Ndombele is similar to Andre Zambo Anguissa, so it will be interesting to see how the poetic tactician uses both players.

Napoli start their campaign against Hellas Verona on Monday, but it might be too soon to see Ndombele in action. Their home tie against AC Monza may be a feasible date for Ndombele to make his Napoli debut.
