PSG close to signing Reims striker and Newcastle target Hugo Ekitike for 35 million Euros + bonuses
PSG have agreed a deal to sign talented young striker Hugo Ekitike from Stade de Reims this summer for a reported 35 million Euros. The 20-year-old was a target for Newcastle during the January transfer window and this sum,mer but the Tyneside club failed to agree a deal with the player. Newcastle had an agreement with Reims for the France U20 international at around €36m plus an extra €10m in bonuses. However, the player then stalled, allowing PSG to swoop in. Hugo is now set to join Luis Campos’s fresh PSG project, but for far less than the Premier League club offered. He was also a target for Borussia Dortmund as they tried to replace Erling Haaland.
L’Équipe reported that the youngster was only willing to join PSG this summer, and was even prepared to remain at Reims for longer in order to secure his “dream” move. Hugo Ekitike scored 10 Ligue 1 goals last season, making him the U-20 top scorer in the top 5 European leagues. According to the reports, he has signed a five-year deal with the Parisian club. This deal could signal the end of PSG’s pursuit of Gianluca Scamacca of Sassuolo who is proving to pricy.
