PSG midfielder Idrissa Gueye closing in on return to Everton
Everton are close to bringing back Idrissa Gueye from PSG with the midfielder considered surplus to requirements in Paris

AFCON 2021 winner Idrissa Gueye is closing in on a return to Everton from PSG this summer with both parties in negotiations. The report comes from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Senegalese midfielder is one of the players Le Parisiens are trying to move on as Luis Campos attempts to shape the midfield for Christophe Galtier.

Idrissa Gueye spent three years in Merseyside between 2016 and 2019, earning praise as a master defensive midfielder. He was constantly in the top echelons for tackles won and interceptions.

His performances in Everton blue led PSG to sign the player for £30 million. His early performances in France suggested that the money was well-spent. However, after some time, the performances began to dwindle.

The 32-year-old is now considered surplus to requirements in Paris and is close to rejoining Everton. With Vitinha joining and the club still targeting Renato Sanches, there is no space for Idrissa Gueye.

Frank Lampard could use a defensive anchor in midfield with Allan underperforming in England. The club has no true ball winner in midfield. The player needs a club and the club needs his profile. They are a perfect fit.

Idrissa Gueye could become the club’s fourth signing of the summer after Dwight McNeil, Ruben Vinagre, and James Tarkowski
