Riqui Puig set to sign for MLS side LA Galaxy from Barcelona
Riqui Puig is set to leave Barcelona as negotiations for his departure are in their advanced stages with MLS side LA Galaxy, according to MARCA.
Puig, who joined the Spanish giants in 2014, has failed to establish himself in the Spotify Camp Nou. The midfielder made his debut for the Catalan giants in the 2018/19 season under Ernesto Valverde, but has failed to get the attention of any of the following managers, despite being one of their promising La Masia graduates.
Competition has been more difficult with the arrival of Frank Kessie from AC Milan and the return of Miralem Pjanic from loan. The men seem to have impressed Xavi in pre-season, while the youngster did not join the club on their tour.
Puig’s contract expires in 2023, but Barcelona are prepared to release him in exchange for a potential future sell-on fee. The midfielder is now considered surplus to requirements under Xavi.
His agents have been seen with Barcelona Executives and are looking to end his spell with the Blaugrana side. Sources hint that it is only a matter of hours for his departure to be finalized.
Puig, who turns 23 soon, had intense competition in midfield last season and only managed to get 15 appearances for the club. He has made 57 appearances in total since making his debut for the club against Huesca on 13th April 2019.
