SC Freiburg pursue soon-to-be free agent Matthias Ginter to replace Nico Schlotterbeck
Matthias Ginter is nearing a return to SC Freiburg this summer as a free agent

Borussia Monchengladbach central defender Matthias Ginter could be heading to SC Freiburg this summer to replace Nico Schlotterbeck, who has completed a move to Borussia Dortmund. Ginter, a German international and World Cup winner, will be a free agent this summer when his contract with Gladbach expires, and Freiburg, his youth team, wants to bring him back. The 28-year-old has improved over the years but has had a disappointing campaign under Adi Hutter. The Foals were flirting with relegation at one point this season.

His Bundesliga campaign has not been the best, deterring big hitters like Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich. However, Ginter will be a coup for Christian Streich and Freiburg. His experience will be vital for the club, especially in Europe(UCL or UEL). Ginter’s reading of the game remains exceptional, his passing is good, and he is dominant in the air. A move back to the club where he made his senior debut could be a masterstroke for his career.
