Thebe Magugu’s SS25 Collection ‘Reparations’: Football Meets Fashion in a Tale of Reconnection
Goal-Ready Glamour!
Thebe Magugu, the South African fashion designer whose work has graced some of the most prestigious runways, captivated the global stage with his Spring/Summer 2025 collection, ‘Reparations’. Debuting during Paris Fashion Week, the entire collection is an artistic masterpiece but what we cannot get enough of is incorporating some Jersey inspired looks into his collection which was both symbolic and nostalgic.
It represents a connection to his father, a football enthusiast, and reflects a shared language of camaraderie and pride that transcends familial estrangement.
“Football has always been a part of my childhood memories, even during times of distance,” Magugu explained post-show. “It’s a symbol of togetherness, whether in the stands, on the pitch, or watching from home.”
The Magugu FC Home Jersey
One of the standout pieces in ‘Reparations’ is the Magugu FC Home Jersey, which re-imagines the traditional football jersey through the designer’s avant-garde lens. The knitted Magugu F.C Jersey is hemmed with South African Ostrich Feathers. Can you believe that?
- Design Details: The jersey features the sisterhood Orb on the torso and embroided emblem on the chest. Knitted in a breathable viscose yarn, the Jersey features a ribbed collar and v-neck design and it is available now here
- Magugu FC Crest: A custom crest adorns the chest, combining symbols of family unity and Magugu’s signature motif of the all-seeing eye, representing introspection and forward-thinking.
The Magugu FC Asymmetrical Trim Dress
Taking football-inspired design into uncharted territory, the Magugu FC Asymmetrical Trim Dress is a showstopper that reinterprets elements of the jersey in an elegant, feminine form.
- Silhouette: The dress features a dramatic asymmetrical hemline with fluid, layered panels that mimic the movement of players on a pitch. It’s structured yet dynamic, embodying the energy and rhythm of the game.
- Details: Key design elements include sporty ribbed trims at the neckline and sleeves, juxtaposed with delicate mesh panels reminiscent of goal nets, subtly tying the dress back to its football inspiration.
- Color Blocking: The dress mirrors the home jersey’s red colorway but introduces soft accents of white and burgundy, creating a striking interplay of strength and grace.
This piece bridges the worlds of sport and sophistication, making it perfect for a modern audience that values versatility in fashion.
