Transfer News: Arsenal is very close to signing Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata
Former Chelsea man Alvaro Morata is very close to a move back to London with Arsenal. The Gunners are on track to extend Eddie Nketiah’s contract, but Mikel Arteta is in the market for a new forward to bolster his attacking options. They have been linked with Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling, and Victor Osimhen amongst others. However, in a surprise turn of events, the Gunners are in advanced negotiations to bring Morata back to London in a deal worth around £25M.
Which Clubs have Alvaro Morata played for?
The 29-year-old has had spells in Spain, Italy, and England. Chelsea parted ways with £70M to bring the Spaniard to England from Real Madrid in 2017. At that time, it was a club-record fee. He featured for a season and a half under Antonio Conte and Maurizio Sarri, making 72 appearances for the club, scoring 24 goals, and providing six assists in what was a hugely underwhelming spell with the blues. He has since plied his trade at Atletico Madrid and Juventus but has shown little or no improvement from his time at Stamford Bridge.
Morata has spent the last two seasons on loan at Juventus, netting 12 times in 48 games. The Serie A outfit has refused to make his deal a permanent one, opting to sign Dusan Vlahovic instead, and he has been an incredible addition to the side. Atletico has resolved to offload the Spaniard, and Barcelona were rumored to be interested. Surprisingly, it looks like his next destination would be Arsenal.
