Transfer News: Liverpool moves to renew Sadio Mane’s contract amidst interest from Bayern Munich
Liverpool move to deny Bayern Munich a chance at Sadio Mane's signature with prospects of a new contract

Entwined in their chase for a quadruple, Liverpool face some contract standoffs with Mohammed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane yet to agree to extend their stay at Anfield. While they can be encouraged with the former two as they have shown willingness to stay if agreeable terms can be reached, Mane’s situation would prove more concerning as the Senegalese has emerged on the radar of Bundesliga Champions Bayern Munich.

The Bavarians also have contract renewal issues with Robert Lewandowski and Serge Gnabry yet to put pen to paper. Should they lose Gnabry, Die Roten would look to snatch the 30-year-old from the claws of the reds, and a move to the Allianz Arena could prove irresistible to the former Southampton man.

Mane is currently on a deal that expires in 2023. Despite speculations linking him with a move away, with Barcelona also rumored to be interested, the Reds are relaxed about the situation. They have made plans to reopen talks over his future at the end of the season.

According to reports from Goal, there has been no indication, publicly or privately, that the Senegal international is seeking a new challenge. While he is naturally aware that several of Europe’s top clubs are keeping a close eye on his situation, he insists he is happy at Liverpool.

Mane has been terrific for Liverpool this season. It may not be his highest scoring campaign, but he has delivered strong performances, particularly since the turn of the year. He has scored 21 goals and provided four in all competitions. Striking partner Roberto Firmino has suffered injuries, and Mane has thrived in his makeshift central role, with new signing Luis Diaz excelling on the left.

Klopp, who extended his contract recently, views Mane and Salah as key players in Liverpool’s future. He is on record as saying that both will be able to play well into their 30s due to their professionalism and conditioning. Despite the impact made by Luis Diaz, who has been instrumental since signing in January, and Diogo Jota, replacing the output from the African duo would be extremely difficult.
