Zinedine Zidane set to accept PSG job after breakthrough in negotiations - Mauricio Pochettino to leave soon
PSG set to hire Zinedine Zidane
According to various reports, PSG has made a breakthrough in their negotiations to hire Zinedine Zidane as their head coach. After years of chasing the former Real Madrid manager, it looks like he will be in the PSG dugouts next season.
Qatar Sports Investment (QSI) is finally taking charge and shaking things up at the Parisian club. They fought hard to keep star man Kylian Mbappe. They also signed up one of the best sporting directors in the business and pushed Leonardo out of the door. For their next move, PSG wants to bring in Zidane. Despite resisting the club for years (his eyes were on Didier Deschamps’ France team), they look set to take him. PSG won the Ligue 1 title back from Lille, but Mauricio Pochettino’s UEFA Champions League round-of-16 capitulation still resounds at the Parc des Princes. Despite the team finding some cohesion and resolve towards the end of the domestic campaign, the Argentine will leave the club this summer.
French President Emmanuel Macron recently expressed his desire to see the World Cup winner Zidane return to France to take charge of a Ligue 1 side. It looks like he might get his wish soon enough.
Zidane, 49, comes with an appealing CV despite his brief terms in club management. His three consecutive UCL titles and two La Liga titles speak to his status as one of the best. La Liga journalists mocked him as the hand-clapping coach, but he got the best from his squad. PSG needs that right now. His Marseille and Real Madrid past may have prevented him from moving since, but after leaving Los Blancos in 2021, he’ll be itching for a project. PSG is quite the project alright.
A new sporting director in the building
This comes after the club presented Luis Campos as an adviser. The French club means business. The 57-year-old spearheaded AS Monaco and Lille with his transfers on their way to league titles.
He said: “I am delighted to be joining Paris Saint-Germain, which I consider is the most ambitious and exciting club in the world. I believe strongly in and share the vision of the club, and I cannot wait to get started to further unleash the great potential of this exceptional club.”
